Megan's Mitzvah Project

A Mitzvah is a commandment, but it is also an opportunity for people to do something special in their lives, for their own benefit and for the sake of those around them. By fulfilling a Mitzvah Project, Megan is actively making mitzvot an important part of her life.

Megan is making the world a better place by helping the homeless.

Last year with Girl Scouts, Megan spent a "Night in a Box" and learned first hand what it can be like to be homeless.  She was introduced to a few women who had been homeless and learned much more about the efforts of different organizations in our area who are working to help find everyone who wants one, a home.

Megan did a lot of research about different organizations and brainstormed what she might be able to do within each organization and on her own to help the homeless.  One of the organizations she chose to work with is Redtail Ponds Supportive Housing in Fort Collins because it is less than a mile from our house.  She met with the manager, Zach, and came up with a few ideas that she can to do help the homeless and to benefit the residents.

Part of her Bat Mitzvah project is to collect 1st aid supplies to deliver to Redtail Ponds Supportive Housing.  She hopes to have a 1st Aid supply drive at her school in the fall and is collecting 1st aid items from family and friends throughout the summer.  Her hope is to collect so many 1st Aid supplies that Redtail Ponds has overflowing storage cupboards and will have to share with Homeless Gear and other local organizations.

Please consider bringing 1st Aid Supplies to Megan's Bat Mitzvah or Havdalah so that you, too, can make the world a better place and help those in need.
